Frequently Asked Questions
-
TheosGPT is an AI specialized for researching religious scriptures. Choose your tradition, pose a question, and receive answers based solely on ancient religious texts.
-
Mainstream AI chatbots draw their information from the open internet, which means they mix canonical texts with modern interpretations, misattributions, and fabrications. These chatbots are designed to always provide an answer even when there isn't a clear one to be found in the scriptures.
TheosGPT gives answers solely based on religious canon and includes direct citations to the passages it used. If no relevant passage is found matching the question, it will refuse to answer. This is a tool to help people navigate extensive spiritual corpuses, it is not meant as a replacement for reading the texts themselves. -
This tool answers strictly from religious canon. Commentaries and authoritative secondary texts are excluded. The Hadith and the Talmud are foundational texts for the modern religion, yet they are still excluded from the database as this is where the line begins to blur. A secondary constraint is the availability of quality open-source English translations, which is why certain texts, such as the Greek Magical Papyri, are absent.

This website runs on a 0$ budget. There is a computational limit to how much it can handle and the only way to make this tool accessible to as many people as possible is to limit the usage.

TheosGPT is inherently less flexible than standard AI due to strict citational requirements. This means it will sometimes be unable to answer questions that are actually answerable, this is the tradeoff for increased reliability.
This does not mean that it cannot be improved and I have spent some time trying to finetune the RAG behind the scenes, but there are many issues trying to link modern english questions to archaic and metaphorical passages.
